Walking Trails Kastos Island
Walking trails on Kastos Island offer some great spots for photos including the ancient olive groves, old windmills, secluded bays with
crystal clear water and a small village. The island offers wonderful views towards Kalamos and the mainland of Greece.
Walking Trails
The walking trails on Kastos are easy to moderate, following the coastal paths along
the sea, visiting small coves and beaches.
Kastos town to the south of the island.
The walk from Kastos town (the port and only village) to the southern end of the island
is a short but rewarding journey through quiet Ionian countryside. It follows a
combination of old footpaths and dirt tracks once used by farmers and shepherds,
passing olive groves, low stone walls, and open coastal views. The route feels remote
despite its modest length and gives a strong sense of the island’s slow pace and
traditional life.
Kastos town to the north of the island.
Starting from the quaint port of Kastos, we follow the coastal road along the east side of the island,
enjoying the views of sparkling coastal waters and secluded beaches. We make our way to Agios Emilianos
beach and the Fokotrypa Cave. This cave was once a refuge for the Mediterranean Monk Seal.
Following back along the coastal road there are stunning views to be seen of the mountainous mainland. We
then venture up through the small picturesque town of Kastos and walk over to the west side of the island
to an old Greek windmill. A great view point looking over the Greek Islands of Kalamos, Meganisi, Formicula and Arkoudi.
